Rotary Club Awards

In Rotary there is a wide range of ways that the service of Rotarians and non-Rotarians can be recognised.

Rotarians can be recognised through – An Avenues of Service Citation, Club Builder Award, Rotary Foundation Citation for Meratorius Service, Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award, Rotary Foundation District Service Award, Rotary International Service Above Self Award, Service award for a Polio-free World, Vocational Service Award. Rotary Clubs can be recognised with a membership Development Award, Presidential Citation and Significant Achievement Award. Rotary Partners in Service can be recognised with a Presidential Citation for Interact Clubs, Presidential Citation for Rotaract Clubs, Rotaract outstanding Project Award, Rotarian Spouse/Partner Service Award, Rotary Alumni Association of the Year Award, Rotary Award for Excellence in Service to Humanity Award, Rotary Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award, World Interact Week Recognition and World Rotaract Week recognition.  I’ll bet there’s a few there that many Rotarians won’t be familiar with!

Paul Harris Fellowship

The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow recognition is The Rotary Foundation’s way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named for the Rotary Founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905. When $US1000 is contributed to The Rotary Foundation, a request can be made for an individual to be recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow; that person can be a Rotarian or a member of the community who is not a Rotarian. When a person is recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow, they are presented with a Certificate signed by the Rotary International President and the Chairman of the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation, and a lapel pin and medallion. The contribution to The Rotary Foundation can be made in one sum or by cumulative giving over a number of years. Individuals can make a personal contribution or the contribution can be from a club, a company or business.

Rotary of course isn’t about recognition, it’s about results – however you’d have to agree that people do like to be thanked, and often spurred-on from that appreciation comes on-going effort and indeed efforts from others. Just talking about what has been achieved sometimes has an unexpected effect thousands of miles away or in an idea or project of a totally different context. A significant key to Rotarians ability to get things done is that we talk and work together to achieve far more than an individual could do.

Picton Rotary Club is part of Rotary District 9675 encompassing all of the Southern part of Sydney, West to Penrith and down into the Illawarra; a total of 64 clubs and 1550 active Rotarians – a significant force for good in our communities and beyond! We are one of seven Rotary Clubs in the Macarthur area, the others being: Camden RC, Narellan RC, Wollondilly North RC, Ingleburn RC, Campbelltown RC and Macarthur-Sunrise RC. In the Macarthur area there is definitely a Rotary Club waiting to warmly welcome new people onto the team – is that you?
